A River

I was a river once
Fast furious strong
Rushing tumbling unstoppable
Growing carving a bigger bed
Wanting to be The Big River
Life and storms changed the course
Now here in The Delta
Slow mingling with older waters
Peaceful contemplative
Soon to be ascended recycled reused
Evaporated to a new life
To fall as rain or snow
Or as a cloud to look down wistfully
On new rivers rushing
Striving too hard
