Conquered

Trains doze, nestled silently in sidings
Unseen, the moon caresses yawning platforms
A shadow pauses, sways from the hill
Flits across the sleeping metal girders
Slides past the shops, somnolent and shuttered
Floats along, through ghosts of legs
And silent ripples of unbreathed air
An emperor made bold
The kingdom of stone and steel lies
Conquered beneath your paws
