I Must Apologize

I must apologize

For telling you this, as it will not
Happen once I do.

I wished upon a dandelion
For more dandelions. For them
To grow proud and sharp like
Lion’s teeth gnashing the flesh
Of the earth, the dirt reeling
And earthworms drinking

The loosened rainwater.
I wished upon a birthday candle.
For melted wax to snake down my back
And take all my hair when it goes.

I wished upon a shooting star
(That ended up being Venus)
For an imploding one
To breathe in the energy around it
And make a wish
And blow it out
And wipe away
All the dandelions
And all the birthday candles.
