I Won’t Say A Word

Could this be
the best time of day?
The room hums,
gadgets stirring,
but all I hear is
the outside world:
wind-tousled trees
and early morning
birdsong.

A secret time.
I don't often get to
enjoy it alone,
to be in solitude,
lips clamped shut.
(If I utter a word,
will it pollute the air?)

Perhaps if I listen carefully
another will speak
– that soothing voice
I long to hear.
It will be okay.

I’ll wait, hold my thoughts,
keep my chatter at bay
– save it for
another time of day.
