My Heart Is Meditating

My heart is meditating
in the green shadows
of wild woods
that whisper stories
of wary wanderers—
the rain, the sun
take turns
to reach the clod
the Spanish moss is girthing

in its silence it mimics
the sagacious wildflowers
springing and falling
in a xenodochial loch

the diamond crystals
splayed between its dimples
leave a travertine
near my city
to build stuccoed homes

my heart has left behind
